Laboratory for thermal techiques and fire protection

The activity of the laboratory includes thermal engineering, i.e. measurements of the thermal properties of building materials and elements, theoretical analyzes and calculations of thermal parameters in construction and fire protection, i.e. fire resistance tests of building elements and structures, fire reaction tests, theoretical analyzes and expertise.

Determination of the thermodynamic performance of construction products (materials or structures) is carried out by laboratory and field methods. These are: testing the coefficient of heat transmission (building carpentry and thermal insulation materials), measuring the air permeability of buildings, measuring the coefficient of heat transmission and thermal resistance in the field, measuring the coefficient of heat transmission using the hot-box method for complete windows and doors. Detection of thermal irregularities in the building envelope or on other elements and assemblies is performed by thermal imaging.

The IMS Institute has several decades of experience in testing the fire resistance of building structures, which is determined in its own vertical test furnace. In this way, tests are performed on steel and wooden fire-resistant doors, rigid and flexible walls, expanding coatings for fire protection of metal and wooden structures, fire-resistant flaps and blinds, cable penetration, insulated and non-insulated plastic and metal pipes, modular systems and other vertical wall penetrations. .

Tests carried out for the purpose of classification according to reaction to fire are non-combustibility, upper heat capacity, single burning source test (SBI test), low flame and flooring test.
