The Centre for materials

Department of environmental protection

The main activity of the Environmental Protection Department is related to engineering and consulting in the field of environmental protection: waste characterization, creation of product declarations on environmental protection for construction products, consulting in the field of industrial waste management and technological development projects in the field of recycling technologies.

Characterization of waste (physical, physico-chemical) is carried out for the purpose of classifying waste for cross-border movement, treatment and disposal in accordance with the regulations governing the category, testing and classification of waste, as well as for the use of recycles as secondary raw materials.

A large part of the research of the IMS Institute relates to the possibilities of using industrial waste, by-products or secondary raw materials in construction materials, with reference to the RRR principle, circular economy and analysis of the durability of the life of construction materials and products.

One of the activities at the Materials Center is product life cycle assessment – LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and EPD (Environmental Production Declaration) of construction products – analysis of the phases of the life cycle of construction products, taking into account the various impacts of those phases on the environment.
